On the twelfth day of December my true love gave to me,
a gathering of the community.
This weekend was full of community activity. To me, this is a big part of what makes the holidays special, and is all about enjoying the season in good health, good spirits, and good fun.
On Saturday we began by attending our local museum’s holiday gathering. This was a one-day event that allowed locals and visitors alike to see exhibits that were getting ready to go into the vault for a long time. There were cookies, soup, punch, caroling, and children’s activities. For every food pantry donation we were given a 5% discount toward purchases in the gift shop. There was also a seating area that allowed people to rest and watch a fantastic version of the Nutcracker on a large flat screen.
One of the cool activities available for the kids was to use beads to spell out their names in morse code. Pretty cool, huh?
A friend from church played the harp while we were there and it was beautiful. I always love watching her play such an amazing instrument.
And on Sunday was our annual Christmas Parade. I love the fact that the parade marches right past our house so that I never have to worry about parking, or getting through the swarms of people trying to get out and go home afterwards.
Make sure you take time to participate in and enjoy the festivities around you. It just wouldn’t be the Christmas Season without it. It doesn’t matter how old you are, go ahead and sit on Santa’s lap and feel the excitement of Christmas as you did as a child. Have you been naughty or nice?? And as always, remember the real reason for the season.
“…and said to me, ‘I am going to make you fruitful and will increase your numbers. I will make you a community of peoples, and I will give this land as an everlasting possession to your descendants after you’.”
